“National solutions for the Syrian crisis are based on Syrians’ consensus” – SDC’s Co-chairman

Mahmoud al-Mislat, Co-chairman of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), emphasized that the solutions to the Syrian crisis can only be found by Syrians through their consensus. He made this statement during a dialogue seminar titled “The SDC’s Vision for a Political Solution in Syria,” which was held by the SDC on Tuesday in the city of Tabqa, Raqqa Governorate.

In addition to al-Mislat, the seminar was attended by Ali Rahmoun, Deputy of the SDC’s Co-chairs, Berivan Hassan, a member of the SDC’s General Council, and Thubiya al-Nasser, a member of the SDC’s Advisory Office. Also, dozens of tribal leaders, intellectuals, activists, and representatives of civil institutions and political parties in the region participated in the seminar.

Al-Mislat discussed the beginning and developments of the Syrian crisis, highlighting the importance of the SDC as a national project that aims to find a political, peaceful and win-win solution for all Syrians.

Regarding national issues of concern to Syrians, al-Mislat considered the Kurdish issue as an integral part of the Syrian solution due to the shared history that unites Syrians across ethnic and social spectrums. “Syrians are deeply patriotic and committed to their national affiliations and overcoming differences to agree on national constants” al-Mislat stated.

Regarding the second theme of the seminar, titled “The National Work,” Rahmoun emphasized that Syrians face political and societal divisions, lacking full political representation. Therefore, to address this, the SDC seeks the intra-Syrian dialogue to establish a national political body capable of achieving consensus and solutions.

Rahmoun added that the SDC affirms the importance of the comprehensive national identity and unifying visions in accordance with relevant international resolutions to come up with a peaceful political solution and end obstacles imposed by regional powers that hinder the Syrian issue.

Rahmoun added that the only glimmer of hope for Syrians lies in the political and societal powers in this region, with the SDC at the forefront. The SDC supports the formation of national working committees that play a crucial role in coordinating shared visions within an organized and purposeful collective framework. These principles align with the unity of Syria, both land and people.

Subsequently, Ahmad al-Khalaf, Head of the Future Syria Party branch in Tabqa, emphasized that Syria has suffered significant losses throughout the crisis years. Al-Khalaf believed that the real solution lies in restoring trust to the Syrian people and addressing their demands.

Sheikh Hussein al-Rashid, Head of the Council of Notables in Tabqa, raised the question of how to practically achieve an effective the intra-Syrian dialogue that aligns with the historical and ethical values held by the diverse components of Syrian society. He called for seizing available opportunities.

In conclusion, the participants in the seminar affirmed the unity of the Syrian people and the principle of Syrian national dialogue. They discussed the political transition in Syria and the necessity of strengthening of diplomatic relations facilitated by the SDC, with support by various powers, political parties, tribes, and civil society. The goal is to achieve a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.
