Political powers, parties, boards and movements in addition to civil society organizations and Syrians figures have condemned the brutal Turkish aggression on regions in northern and eastern Syria since Jan. 13, 2024 up to the present day.
In their statement, those entities expressed that these attacks are considered an unprovoked and blatant aggression as a terrorism and an assault on the sovereignty of another state. The assaults target the unity of the Syrian people and its diverse components.
The statement noted that Turkey has occupied approximately one-tenth of Syrian territory since the beginning of the Syrian crisis. Turkey has been implementing policies of demographic change, Turkification, and ethnic cleansing in these areas. Also, Turkey has been targeting civilians, as well as essential infrastructure and services, including water and power plants, and food companies by using drones that cause severe harm and damage on our civilian population in northern and eastern Syria.
The statement mentioned that the dangerous escalation in various Syrian regions hinders efforts to stop the war and initiating a political solution based on UN Resolution 2254 as well as the escalation hinders endeavors of the Arab Quintet Group resulting from the May 2023 meeting in Oman, aimed at achieving stability and peace in Syria.
The statement emphasized that these attacks and interventions constitute a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, threatening the future and unity of its people. They are considered crimes against humanity and violate UN Resolutions, all international laws, human rights conventions, and the legitimacy of human rights acknowledged by international charters.
Those entities called, in their statement, for the international community and all human rights organizations to condemn these attacks.
They urged the UN, Security Council, the Arab League, and all countries worldwide, advocates for peace, to make binding decisions to halt the aggression on Syria and its people and to combat terrorism and its supporters.
