Once again, our people in Deir ez-Zor were targeted with the aim of intimidating the population, disrupting security and stability, and obstructing any political movement that could make the situation stable in this region. An attack targeted a military academy affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in al-Omar oil field east of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in the martyrdom of six fighters of the SDF and injuring several others. The attack was carried out by a drone, and investigations indicate that it was coming from areas-held by the authority in Damascus.
The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) extends its condolences to the families of the martyrs and condemns in the strongest terms this cowardly act. It reaffirms that the party responsible for this attack is the same one that incited and fueled tensions in September 2023, nearly dragging Deir ez-Zor and its people into dangerous conflicts but the efforts of the wise and rational individuals from Deir ez-Zor undermined those tensions.
The SDC calls on the people of Deir ez-Zor to be more careful towards projects aimed at involving people in Deir ez-Zor in agendas plotted by enemies of freedom and democratic values. The Council also emphasizes the importance of the people of Deir ez-Zor fulfilling their national responsibilities and not tolerating attempts to turn their areas into bases for such schemes. The people’s resilience in Deir ez-Zor against this plan and its overcoming of this crisis will make it as a starting point for the democratic project towards other regions that have been affected by tyranny and corruption.
