On the occasion of the Yazidi New Year, known as the Red Wednesday, which falls on the first Wednesday of April according to the Eastern (Yazidi) calendar, we extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Yazidi community in northeastern Syria, as well as around the world. May the Yazidis celebrate their holiday in safety and peace.
Throughout historical events, the Yazidis have faced harsh experiences, tragedies, and calamities. They have endured persecution due to commitment to their religious distinctiveness and suffered for their national identity. In Syria, the Yazidi community has not been spared from terrorism and extremism, as witnessed in Afrin, where extremist terrorist factions affiliated with Turkey occupied the region. Prior to that, the Yazidis endured atrocities committed by the terrorist group (ISIS) in Sinjar (Shengal) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
We congratulate the Yazidis on the Red Wednesday, hoping that future celebrations and occasions will occur under better circumstances. May our country, Syria, be under a democratic, pluralistic and decentralized regime.
