SDC issues a statement on the Kobani events case

The Turkish judiciary has recently issued varying sentences against 108 leaders, political figures, and former parliamentarians on what is known colloquially as the “Kobani events” case. This comes on the backdrop of the politicians who urged protesters to demonstrate against the siege of the city of Kobani by the Islamic State (ISIS) in October 2014.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) expresses its deep concerns regarding Turkey’s policies aimed at making the city of Kobani targeted by Turkey again. The SDC views the decision of the Turkish judiciary as nothing but a continuation of the ruling coalition’s revenge in Turkey against those who supported the resistance of the people in Kobani. It also serves as a message to the international powers that supported it. Additionally, this decision represents the continuation of Turkey to target and occupy Kobani which its victory against ISIS posed an obstacle to Turkey’s project aimed at occupying northern regions in Syria.

The SDC calls upon the international community not to tolerate Turkey’s ambitions. It also emphasizes that the fundamental problems in the region can only be resolved through the national dialogue and negotiation among various parties. As the SDC promotes the values of democracy, participation, and coexistence among the Syrian historical components that constitute the fabric of the region.
