SDC participates in the 25th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Kurdistan National Conference

At the invitation of the Kurdistan National Conference, a delegation led by the Co-chairwoman of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) participated in the 25th anniversary celebrations of its establishment, in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.

The participants in the event observed a minute of silence to remember the martyrs of freedom in Syria. Representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), political parties, intellectuals, community figures, and tribal leaders attended the event.

A number of officials delivered speeches at the conference. They focused on the importance of national unity for the Kurdish people, the role of the Kurdistan National Conference in achieving those aspirations. Also, they discussed the challenges facing the Kurdish cause in the region.

Additionally, the speeches called for the necessity of unifying the Kurdish ranks, protecting the achievements made, and confronting the Turkish attacks on Kurdish areas in northeastern Syria.

Regarding the theme entitled the Kurdish unity is an inevitable and necessary amid accelerating regional and international developments, Ilham Ahmad, Co-chairwoman of the Foreign Relations Department of the AANES, pointed out that the Kurdish issue cannot be resolved through war. Ahmad called on Turkey to abandon warfare as it is not a solution. Ahmad noted that Northeast Syria is under significant pressure by Turkey, which seeks to end it, while other powers believe that the national dialogue is fundamental. Also, she stated that the Kurdish and Kurdistan issues have become influential in the Middle East, and if they have been resolved, powers in large geographical area would seek towards peace, and new opportunities would arise.

Furthermore, the Kurdistan National Conference was established on May 26, 1999, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, aiming to protect the interests of the Kurdish people and achieve unity among them.
