Why Cultural Elites and Societal Figures?

After a series of Syrian-Syrian dialogues and success of the Syrian Tribal Gathering on May 3 of current year and the dialogues abroad, this time the Syrian Democratic Council organized a dialogue seminar for cultural elites and societal figures in the city of Qamishlo in Northeastern Syria. Upon an invitation of the Organization Office of the Syrian Democratic Council , dozens of societal figures and cultural elites gathered in a dialogue seminar under the slogan “Together Towards Building a Democratic Decentralization Syria” in the city of Qamishlo on August 2.  During the seminar, the Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, Amina Omar, spoke about the political developments in the region and reasons for the failure of any progress in the political process to resolve the Syrian crisis. During her speech, she touched upon activities and events organized by the Syrian Democratic Council(SDC) and the efforts exerted by it to resolve the Syrian crisis through its political tracks and related international resolutions, pointing to inevitability of the failure of the political process if the exclusion of SDC and Self-Administration for North and East of Syria continues. The Turkish threats and its attempts to establish a safe area in North of Syria were not absent from the talk of the Co-Chair of SDC. She renewed SDC’s rejection of any Turkish presence on Syrian soil, and pointed out that Turkey’s aim from the safe area is to occupy more Syrian lands as in Afrin, al-Bab, Azaz, Jarablis and other cities. The member of the Public Relations Office of SDC and the member of the Preparatory Committee of dialogue workshops, Ali Rahmoun, talked about the purpose of the workshops and their agendas. He said during the seminar that the Syrian Democratic Council seeks to build national consensus with blocs and democratic political powers of the Syrian opposition. Rahmoun said that the experience of Self-Administration, mechanism of democratic transition through road map to reach a solution for the Syrian crisis and holding a comprehensive national conference are the most prominent addresses of the workshops held in Paris and Vienna. In the same context, the Co-Chair of the Organization Office, Laila Qahraman, said that the Syria Democratic Council takes care of all groups and segments of society, especially cultural elites and societal figures who can be the actual protector of the gains made by the sacrifices of their sons. In her speech, Qahraman said that in the Organization Office, they are holding similar seminars in different regions in order to take advantage of observations made by these groups and constructive criticism they are giving to the Syrian Democratic Council as the political reference for the North and East regions of Syria. In the second part of the seminar, participants were allowed to ask questions and inquiries. They expressed their satisfaction with holding of such seminars and the open-mindedness of SDC to all segments of the Syrian society. Finally, participants expressed about their wish for continuing organizing similar seminars and dialogues in the coming stage.
