The United Nations has welcomed the humanitarian truce declared by the Syrian Democratic Forces, and its support for the call of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, calling for an immediate global ceasefire to facilitate the global response to novel Coronavirus epidemic.
\nThis came in a statement issued yesterday evening, Thursday, by the spokesman for the Secretary-General, Mr. Stephen Dujarric, in which he mentioned the statement of the Syrian Democratic Forces and their declaration of commitment to avoid engaging in military action.
\nThe SDF had announced in a statement on March 24 its response to the call of the United Nations Secretary-General, and confirmed its commitment to global efforts to combat Corona epidemic by supporting and responding effectively to this situation.
\nThe General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces called on all parties to the Syrian conflict to refrain from any military initiatives or actions, to commit immediately to a humanitarian truce and to avoid engaging in any military actions.
\nThev SDF said in its statement:
\n“We hope that this humanitarian truce will help to open the door for dialogue and political solution and end the state of war in the world and Syria.”
\nThe General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces has also showed its commitment to ensuring an effective response to this crisis and facilitating access for health workers – local and international ones – to all areas controlled by its forces.
\nOn March 23, the United Nations Secretary-General appealed for a ceasefire throughout the world saying: “It is time to stop armed conflict and focus together on the real battle in our live.”
\nThe Secretary-General said that our world is facing a common enemy, the Coronavirus, which causes Covid-19 disease, indicating that this virus attacks everyone relentlessly, and does not care about any ethnic origin, nationality, faction or religion.<\/p>\n
