The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) views the recent agreement between the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as one step within a complex process. It aims to de-escalate tensions, prevent further chaos, and create the conditions for a new political phase. This stage requires addressing the root causes of the conflict, rather than merely managing its consequences.<\/strong>
\nThe SDC emphasizes that any political or security understandings can only be assessed by their tangible commitment to protecting civilians. This includes safeguarding Syrians\u2019 civil and political rights, ensuring the safe and dignified return of displaced persons, and preserving civil peace and societal stability.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SDC\u2019s engagement with these developments is consistent with its political approach, which is grounded in dialogue and peaceful solutions. It also reflects the SDC\u2019s awareness of the profound transformations taking place in Syria and the wider region. Moreover, it underscores the need for a responsible transition from a logic of managing territory and conflict to an approach based on national political action and the building of a broad Syrian consensus.<\/strong>
\nIn this context, the SDC affirms that its support for any negotiation path stems from its role as a democratic political power. It remains committed to preventing the return of authoritarianism and rejecting any attempt to reproduce the root causes of the crisis. At the same time, the SDC strongly condemns the use of violence and military confrontation as a means of managing political disputes. It considers that the military escalations witnessed in Syria’s coastal region, in Suwayda, and later in Northeast Syria\u2014followed by partial and temporary agreements\u2014reflect an evasion of the fundamental responsibility to ensure the success of the transitional phase and to build an inclusive national path toward a comprehensive political solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SDC stresses that the current phase requires rebuilding trust among the components of the Syrian people, preventing sectarian strife, and strengthening Arab\u2013Kurdish partnership. It also underscores the need to consolidate the role of civil and political actors as the true guarantors of the country\u2019s unity and stability, away from any domination or exclusion. In this regard, the it reaffirms its commitment to maintaining its national and international relations that support stability, counterterrorism efforts, and the protection of rights and freedoms, within a framework that respects Syrian sovereignty and the will of its people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the SDC closely follows this sensitive stage and the challenges it entails, it reaffirms its determination to continue working in line with its national political program and to shoulder its historical responsibilities. This stance is rooted in the SDC\u2019s conviction that what Syria is experiencing today is not the end of a process, but rather a pivotal moment of transformation. This phase demands that all democratic powers reorganize their roles to defend the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity, justice, and democracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n
