SDC’s Women’s Association discusses the national strategy to empower women

The Women’s Association of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held on Tuesday its second meeting in Hasakah city this year. The purpose of this meeting was to evaluate the current political situation and discuss the stages of the national strategy for empowering the leading role of women.

Layla Qaraman, Co-chairwoman of the SDC, chaired the meeting with the participation of Janda Muhammad, Deputy of the SDC’s Co-chairs, and the Co-chairwomen of the SDC’s offices. Representatives of the SDC from Washington, London, and Cairo also attended the meeting via Zoom.

During the meeting, Qaraman assessed the political developments and changes affecting the world and the Middle East, specifically the Syria including Northeastern Region of Syria due to unstable conditions.

She emphasized that the Syrian issue is not a key priority for the international community, criticizing the neglect of the Syrian people’s tragedy. There are a continued marginalization of the crucial role played by Syrian women and obstacles they face in participating in decision-making regarding the Syrian crisis.

The meeting agenda included reviewing the SDC’s office reports, evaluating their activities, and discussing organizational aspects and future action plans.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms to discuss the national strategy for empowering the leading role played by women in 2024 and 2025. This strategy was announced by the SDC’s Women’s Association on March 8, 2024, which marked the International Women’s Day, during a dialogue seminar in Aleppo.

Additionally, the meeting extensively discussed practical mechanisms for the national strategy based on three main themes: political, cognitive, and technological matters.

The Association stressed the importance of aligning visions, efforts, and strategic goals to ensure effective participation of women at all stages of the political process. The meeting also underscored the need to intensify efforts at all levels to enhance the women’s political stance.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the situation of Syrian women in various regions of Syria. It highlighted how local and regional developments impact women’s roles and status.

It also clarified the important role of women’s organizations and Syrian women’s associations, emphasizing the potential for networking and unified efforts in resolving crises regarding the Syrian issue that should be a key priority for the international community.
