Statement for the Public Opinion

On April 24, 2024, we commemorate the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenian people. We strongly condemn the heinous crimes and mass atrocities perpetrated by the Ottoman authorities during the early 20th century. Over than million individuals were brutally killed, systematically displaced from their homes, and the repercussions of this genocide continue to be felt to this day.

Those horrific crimes were based on racism and sectarianism. They are considered as one of the worst forms of genocide in human history. They inflicted severe damage upon the Armenian people, their culture, and heritage. It is our duty to ensure that such human tragedies are not forgotten, so that such egregious violations of human rights and dignity do not recur.

Nowadays, the modern Turkish state follow a similarly aggressive approach towards the Syrian people. Turkish forces and pro-Turkish Syrian factions have carried out several military operations and occupied Syrian territories, resulting in the killing and injury of thousands of civilians, and displacement of hundreds of thousands of individuals. These blatant violations of human rights and atrocities committed by Turkey against other peoples are nothing but a continuation of the genocide perpetrated against the Armenians and Christians.

We strongly condemn these serious violations of international humanitarian law by Turkey in Syrian territories. Also, we hold it fully responsible for protecting civilians and ending its occupation of Syrian territories. Additionally, we call on the international community to take strict measures against Turkey to halt this aggression and ensure accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity, compelling it to respect international humanitarian law.
