MSDThe Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) strongly condemns the bombings that targeted the area surrounding the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus. The SDC considers this terrorist attack a direct assault on the safety of civilians and the stability of the country. It also represents an attempt to undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen security and advance peace in Syria.
The timing of the attack, which coincided with the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Damascus, raises serious concerns about an attempt by those responsible to undermine the current atmosphere of political and diplomatic engagement. It may also have been intended to send a message aimed at disrupting cooperation between Syria and its international partners. However, determining the motives behind the attack or identifying those responsible must remain the responsibility of the official investigation.
The SDC affirms that attacks targeting Syria’s security and stability, or attempts to influence diplomatic visits intended to support the country, serve only the interests of those seeking to keep Syria trapped in a cycle of violence and instability. Such acts also obstruct national and international efforts to promote lasting security, political stability, and economic recovery.
The SDC welcomes all regional and international efforts to support the Syrian people in building a safe and stable state. It also reaffirms that dialogue, international cooperation, and respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remain the most effective path to addressing the country’s challenges.
Furthermore, the SDC calls on the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into this terrorist attack. It further urges that those responsible be held accountable in accordance with the law. Such steps are essential to strengthening public confidence in the ability of state institutions to protect citizens and preserve national stability.
