The Aleppo Meeting is Concluded with a Consensus on the Paper Entitled “Foundations of National Dialogue”

“The Aleppo National Meeting” between the SDC and political powers and influential figures from Aleppo city was concluded with a consensus on the paper entitled “Foundations of National Dialogue” proposed by the Syrian Democratic Council in order to build on it and develop it.

It was presented, and after reading it, an opportunity was given for dialogue on its content, a consensus was reached unanimously and an adoption of what it contained of items, which are considered as principles that are more than constitutional and establish a political situation that rises the country and all aspects of the crisis.
The items that were agreed upon are as follows:
1- The inevitability of the unity of Syrian territories, the rank, path and destiny against any type of occupation as well as the consensus on the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Syria.
2- The unity of the Syrian national identity that is based on free, equal and voluntary citizenship, as a supreme national umbrella that does not conflict with the sub-identities or local identities of all sects, doctrines, nationalities and different affiliations, and that the Syrian territory is the homeland and incubator for all sects, nationalities and Syrian communities with different cultural, civilizational, intellectual and religious heritage.
3- The necessity of state neutrality towards ethnicity, religion, nationality, or gender in Syrian society.
4- Adopting the principle of decentralization as a resolution for future Syria, according to the conditions of territories, regions and governorates.
5- National wealth is the property of all Syrians and it should be distributed fairly in order to achieve optimal benefit from wealth for the Syrian citizen.
6- We believe in the principles of humanity, justice, freedom and equality, and we affirm the peaceful resolution for the Syrian crisis, within the aforementioned principles, and that dialogue and the intra-Syrian consensus is the most important matter that will unify our wills, strengths and protect them from fragmentation and exploitation by the forces of occupation or external subordinations.
7- Seeking and working to unify the national political powers and visions with different paths, as we affirm the culture of accepting the others’ opinions until reaching a democratic pluralistic decentralized state.

It was agreed to form a follow-up committee that would conduct consultations, meetings necessary for developing dialogues and expanding agreed-upon points, and supporting them with all possible means to hold a national conference in Aleppo until reaching a comprehensive Syrian national conference.
