The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) strongly condemns, in the strongest terms, the Turkish airstrikes and aggressive attacks that have targeted civilian facilities and infrastructure in northeastern Syria for the past three days until this moment. These attacks are considered as a blatant violation of the international law and a serious threat to peace and security in the region. The Council also strongly denounces the international community’s silence regarding the heinous war crimes committed by the Turkish occupying entity against the people of northeastern Syria, emphasizing that failure to address these crimes constitutes a serious neglect of human values and fundamental principles of justice and human rights.
The recent aggressive attacks by the Turkish occupying state have targeted more than 73 sites in northeastern Syria, including power plants, oil and gas facilities, service and economic institutions, and civilian structures. These attacks have resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, causing severe losses to both public and private properties. Several cities and towns in northeastern Syria, along with over 900 villages, are left without electricity and water, posing a direct threat to the lives of more than five million inhabitants in the region, affecting their livelihoods, safety, and health.
The Turkish occupying state acts as a rogue state in the region, engaging in terrorism by its most heinous forms. Through these attacks, it aims to undermine security and stability, create chaos, revive the terrorist group of the Islamic State (ISIS), occupy other areas in the region, and carry out displacement, ethnic cleansing, and a demographic change anew.
The disturbing silence demonstrated by the international community, the United States (USA) and the Russian Federation in the face of the hostile and terrorist acts committed by the Turkish occupier against the Syrian people, encourages further escalation, endangering the lives of citizens. This is unacceptable and it raises serious matters about the seriousness and commitment of the UN Security Council member states to enforce the international law and hold violators accountable.
The SDC strongly urges the Syrian government and Arab countries to fulfill their responsibilities and work to end the Turkish occupation of Syrian territories, given its serious implications for Arab security and existence. It also calls on both the US and the Russian Federation to take urgent actions to protect the rights and lives of people, playing an effective and decisive role in the UN Security Council to stop the Turkish aggression and hold it accountable for its crimes against the Syrian people. It urges the Syrian people to stand united against the Turkish occupier and its aggression, and all advocates for liberation causes to face the new Turkish Nazism that is escalated in tyranny and hostility towards humanity.
