MSDThe political parties in Aleppo condemned the murder of the child Ahmad Maamo and called on the international powers to put an end to Turkish violations in the city of Afrin and other Syrian regions for ensuring the safe return of inhabitants.
That came during a statement issued by political parties on Thursday, March 14, in Aleppo, denouncing the crime committed against Maamo on Wednesday. The statement was read by Gulistan Habash, a member of the Future Syria Party in the Aleppo Council, in front of the headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
Representatives of the political parties signing the statement were present, including Future Syria Party, the Syrian Democratic National Alliance Party, the Democratic Union Party, the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria, the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party, and the SDC.
“The scene repeats again in a clear violation of all international norms and treaties, Turkey continues its brutal actions towards the people of Afrin, amidst chaos and the absence of laws. Since the first day of occupation of Afrin, Turkey has employed the most violent and oppressive methods against the local population, who live in a state of repeated conflict and fear,” the statement read.
In conjunction with the sixth anniversary of the occupation of Afrin city and the displacement of nearly three hundred thousand civilians from their areas, along with the commission of crimes against humanity and violations, the crime was committed against Maamo. He was thrown into a well in the Jindires town. That crime was not the only one perpetrated against civilians by mercenaries and occupying forces.
The statement also criticized the Syrian government’s failure to fulfill its duty in protecting Syrian territories and its commitment to formally file cases to the United Nations regarding the Afrin occupation and other Syrian regions, as well as the war crimes committed by the mercenary factions affiliated with Turkey.
The political parties, through their statement, called on the international powers to take priority for the humanitarian situation in Afrin. They emphasized the need to intensify efforts to halt violations, restore stability and safety for the region’s inhabitants, facilitate their safe return, and put an end to the occupation across the entire Syrian territories.
The heinous crime committed against the sixteen-year-old child Maamo has sparked widespread public outrage. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Maamo was brutally stabbed and his body was thrown into a well at his house. This incident occurred amidst chaos and security instability in the areas occupied by the Turkish state.
