The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) congratulated the Syriac-Assyrian-Chaldean people on the occasion of Akitu Festival, participating in the celebration.
Layla Qaraman, Co-chairwoman of the SDC, led the SDC’s delegation participating in the celebration of the Assyrian Babylonian New Year (Akitu) organized by the Syriac Union Party on Monday in the town of Tirbe Spiyeh in the eastern countryside of Qamishli city.
In addition to Qaraman, the SDC’s delegation included the deputies of the SDC’s Co-chairs, Janda Muhammad and Ali Rahmoun, as well as Sheira Osay, Co-chairwoman of the SDC’s Media Office, and Dalia Hannan, Co-chairwoman of the SDC’s Organization Office.
During the celebration, the SDC expressed wishes that this Festival would be a source of goodness and peace. It hoped that the new year will mark the beginning of a solution for the Syrian crisis and the end of all tragedies in Syria and the worldwide. Through collaborative efforts in seeking to the national dialogue, we will achieve peaceful coexistence and safety.
Akitu is the Assyrian Babylonian New Year, considered one of the oldest festivals known to human civilization. It falls on the 1st of April each year. It is celebrated by the Syriac-Assyrian people in Syria and Iraq. The rituals of the celebration extend over twelve days, symbolizing renewal and rebirth.
