The Presiding Body of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) convened a meeting with the participation of Layla Qaraman, SDC’s Co-chairwoman, Mahmoud al-Mislat, SDC’s Co-chairman, and the deputies of the SDC’s Co-chairs, along with the Co-chairs of the SDC’s offices.
The participants in the meeting observed a minute of silence to remember the martyrs of freedom, followed by an assessment of the political situation and crises at the international, regional, and local levels, and their implications for the country.
Qaraman discussed the political developments and the serious consequences that can arise from tensions in the region.
She emphasized that resolving the ongoing conflict, which has lasted for more than thirteen years, can only be achieved through the efforts made by all Syrian political powers and national initiatives. She also welcomed the joint announcement of the document on the three regions in Syria and another document on the National Gathering in the Syrian coastal regions.
Also, Qaraman emphasized the importance of national initiatives in unifying the efforts made by Syrian powers to reach common agreements on visions and goals. These initiatives aim to organize work, and contribute to achieving the desired political solution that the Syrian people aspire to through democratic transition.
She considered those initiatives as a supportive step for the National Aleppo Meeting and the Conference of Democratic Powers and Figures, in which the SDC participates in preparation. The goal is to establish a unified political body capable of reaching a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.
Al-Mislat talked about meetings he held with the Syrian community and political activists in Europe. He highlighted that those meetings were fruitful and as an opportunity for Syrian expatriates to be informed about the latest developments in northeastern Syria. He also underscored the SDC’s vision for Syria’s future which we all aspire to.
In this critical stage of the prolonged Syrian crisis, he emphasized the importance of engaging in a serious and comprehensive national dialogue with all Syrian parties and activists. Also, he affirmed to overcome differences, engage in national dialogues to find political solutions that can alleviate Syrian people’s suffering and end this dire crisis.
In a related context, the Presiding Body expressed its concern regarding the security plan and instructions issued by the authority in Damascus to confront the popular movement in the southern region in Syria on April 25. It called for avoiding the suggesting of military solutions, focusing on the Syrian issue, emphasizing the importance of peaceful solutions and national dialogue in resolving Syrian matters.
The meeting also discussed strengthening relations with Syrian national powers and aimed at reaching national agreements. The goal is to reach national plans that ensure an active participation by all Syrian political and societal segments.
The participants emphasized that achieving Syrian national unity is essential to preserving the Syria’s integrity and avoiding dangers and negative impacts of external interventions by various parties.
Furthermore, the Presiding Body highlighted the path of the Syrian national dialogue adopted by the SDC. Additionally, it emphasized enhancing the SDC’s status and relations with influential countries involved in the Syrian issue. It also stressed the importance of Arab countries’ roles in resolving the Syrian crisis. The SDC continues to work according to the national strategy in all Syrian regions.
