The Syrian Democratic Council

Statement for the Public Opinion

On July 19, 2024, marks the twelfth anniversary of the Revolution in North and East Syria. It expressed the Syrians’ desire for democratic transition and the establishment of a modern civil state. On this occasion, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) acknowledges the resilience of the region’s inhabitants including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Yazidis, Armenians, Turkmen, and Chechens. They have embodied a model of national cohesion in the face of extremism and terrorism. This experience has demonstrated the possibility of building a cohesive society based on the principles of equal citizenship and coexistence.

The experience of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has created a unique model of governance and administration. It established values of coexistence and civil peace. It also has proven that women’s participation in aspects of life and youth empowerment are crucial factors in the development of communities. This experience represents a fundamental pillar for decentralization and a model for the Syria’s future we all aspire to.

On this crucial anniversary, we, as members of the SDC, commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs and the wounded and the struggle of the Syrian people. we also reaffirm our commitment to the principles of the Syrian Revolution and the July 19th Revolution. Additionally, we emphasize the necessity of preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty, striving to promote democracy, pluralism, and decentralization. Moreover, we continue to work towards achieving the aspirations of Syrians for freedom, dignity, and social justice. We also call on all segments of Syrian society to contribute to establishing a democratic national project based on a better future within the framework of a united Syrian state.

It is an urgent need to intensify efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms. We emphasize that a security solution alone is not sufficient to address extremism. Therefore, we call on the international community to actively support stability in Syria and combat extremism by addressing its causes. It should work to create the appropriate conditions to move towards a sustainable political solution. The solution that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people and ensures a safe and prosperous future for all Syrians.

Our path towards a unified democratic Syria continues with steadfastness. It is driven by the strong and unwavering determination of our people. We believe that the collaborative endeavors by all Syrians, along with genuine and international support, will expedite the realization of our vision for an inclusive homeland. The experience in North and East Syria serves as an inspiring model upon which we build to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people. The aim also is to achieve freedom, justice, and dignity. This vision is for a country that values its diverse components and safeguards the rights of all its communities.
