AANES Delegation Visits London to Strengthen International Support for Syria’s Democratic Future

A high-level delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) arrived in London for a four-day visit. The primary objective of this visit is to garner international support for a comprehensive political solution that ensures Syria’s stability and a democratic future.

The delegation led by Ilham Ahmed, Co-chairwoman of the AANES Foreign Relations Department, and Hassan Muhammad Ali, Co-chairman of the SDC’s Public Relations Office, focused on key issues related to Syria’s political and security situation. It highlighted the experience of the AANES as a model of stability in a region that has been affected by conflicts for decades. The delegation will also discuss the ongoing attacks on NE Syria by Turkish-backed armed groups. Furthermore, it will emphasize the importance of protecting these areas to ensure their continued role as a pillar of stability within the country.

The delegation aims to present the vision of the AANES for a political solution in Syria. This vision prioritizes political solutions over military approaches. It focuses on the need for a new constitution that guarantees the rights of all components of Syrian society, including the Kurdish people. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of fostering strong international and regional partnerships to achieve lasting stability and peace in Syria.
The visit commenced with a panel discussion at the British Parliament, attended by members of the Syrian and Kurdish diaspora, as well as British MPs. The discussion focused on the latest developments in Syria and the role of the AANES in shaping Syria’s future as a democratic and pluralistic state.

Additionally, the delegation participated in a panel discussion at Chatham House. This panel was attended by a distinguished audience, including European and Arab diplomats, academics, and prominent politicians. During the discussion, the delegation presented the political experience of the AANES and its crucial role in promoting democracy and human rights within Syria.
The delegation also engaged with the audience, answering questions related to its vision for a political solution in Syria and the significance of this experience as a sustainable democratic model.

In addition, the delegation held diplomatic meetings with prominent figures, including Maurice Glasman (Baron Glasman), who is renowned for his support for dialogue in the Middle East, and Andrew Mitchell, former UK Minister for International Development. These meetings focused on strengthening international cooperation and partnerships to bolster stability in Syria.
Finally, the delegation will participate in a commemoration of the historic Kobani resistance. This event will be attended by British government and parliamentary officials, Arab and foreign diplomats, and members of the Kurdish diaspora.

These efforts align with the vision of the AANES to establish a democratic and pluralistic model for Syria. This model emphasizes respect for cultural and religious diversity and the promotion of human rights across the country.
Amid increasing international recognition of its role in combating terrorism, the AANES continues to advocate for a brighter future for all Syrians. It also calls for an end to foreign interference, which has significantly contributed to the country’s destruction over the past fourteen years.

This visit represents a crucial turning point for the AANES. It enhances its international standing and strengthens partnerships that support the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity, and justice.
