UK Health Secretary Discusses Healthcare Challenges with Doctors from Northeast Syria

UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting met with a delegation of Kurdish doctors from Northeast Syria. The meeting was organized by the Kurds for Labour Group and attended by Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, the representative of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in the UK.

During the meeting, the secretary received a detailed briefing on the healthcare situation in Northeast Syria. The delegation outlined the major challenges facing the medical sector in the region. They also highlighted the impact of political and security conditions on the availability and quality of healthcare services.

Following the meeting, the secretary hosted a dinner, where participants exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation. The discussion focused on ways to support the healthcare sector in Northeast Syria.

At the end of the gathering, Streeting expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the doctors. He emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue and reaffirmed his commitment to holding another meeting. This follow-up discussion, to be organized by the SDC’s representatives in the UK, will explore concrete mechanisms for providing expanded healthcare support.
