On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the first of May, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) extends its warmest congratulations and deepest respect to all workers and laborers in Syria and around the world. Workers are the fundamental pillar upon which societies are built and their dignity preserved. Work is not merely a means of making a living. It is an embodiment of human will, a genuine expression of belonging, and a reflection of collective responsibility.
In Syria specifically, the working class faces a double burden. Syrian workers have shown resilience through years of crisis and the economic and social destruction that followed. At the same time, they have continued to serve as the true engine that sustains daily life and preserves the country’s social fabric.
Daily hardships are growing heavier on Syrian citizens. In light of this, providing a dignified life and a fair economic environment has become a national responsibility that cannot be delayed. Supporting workers, protecting their rights, and creating decent job opportunities are not narrow demands disconnected from the broader context. Rather, they are essential conditions for any genuine reconstruction and any viable path toward stability and national recovery.
A country cannot be rebuilt without dignified workers. Nor can society be cohesive without genuine social justice that guarantees every citizen the right to work, fair wages, and full legal protection.
On this occasion, we reaffirm our commitment to defending workers’ rights and struggling for a Syria based on equality, dignity, and justice. We declare our full solidarity with every worker who contributes to the rebuilding of our nation and bears the responsibility for its future.
