The Syrian Democratic Council

Statement to Public Opinion

The sixteenth anniversary of March 12 mass uprising passes in very complex circumstances that the country is going through.
The March uprising was the first cry for a Kurdish mass movement in the city of Qamishli against the authority of tyranny and slavery, and against fascist and racist tendency in which the regime charged its cronies, and incited them to carry out attacks against fans of Jihad sports club, in order to create Kurdish -Arab sedition and hit civil peace, so that the Syrian citizen remains under mercy of his authority and be absent from all fundamental citizenship issues of freedom, rights, justice and equality.
The March uprising did not remain property of the city of Qamishli alone, but rather extended to all Kurdish areas and major Syrian cities, its echo established massive popular demonstrations which resulted in killing tens of martyrs, hundreds of wounded, and thousands of detainees.
The March uprising highlighted persecution and injustice that the authority exercised against Kurdish people for decades, and it laid foundations for a new stage in the history of the Syrian revolutionary struggle, as the Kurdish issue was no longer confined to the struggle of its people , but rather was considered by the Syrian militants as a just, national, democratic cause. They defended it, and spent years in the cellars of prisons in support of its right and fairness.
We, in the Syrian Democratic Council, as we remember this historical station of Syria’s life, we affirm that no force can strike the Syrian national cohesion. The historical human unity that exists between Kurds, Arabs and the rest of the national components, has its roots that go back to before the establishment of Syrian state and will remain firm and steadfast in the face of any party that tries to create sedition and mess around with social peace and security. The Syrian national cohesion is a cemetery of sedition, and we will remain on covenant defending supreme interests of Syrians in order to achieve all their goals in freedom, dignity and transition to a democratic, secular, decentralized state that is prevailed by rule of law and true citizenship.
