Today, on Wednesday, the political parties and organizations affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Council commemorated the sixth anniversary of the founding of the Council in Aleppo with the aim of shedding light on the SDC’s history, its achievements and vision for solving the Syrian crisis.
At the outset of the meeting, the members reviewed the goal of establishing the council, its most important works, the achievements it has achieved over the past years, the council’s endeavors in the last phase, and the active participation of women.
A member of the Presidential Council of the SDC, Mari Al-Shibli, spoke about the Syrian crisis and described it as a deep crisis, a societal, political and economic crisis at all levels, as a direct reflection of the ongoing conflict in and against it.
He added that the military and political balances are no longer the same as they were before in Syria. The Syrian Democratic Council and the Autonomous Administration have made great strides for establishing the foundations of the administration to enable it to face the challenges it faces, not only at the internal level, but through achieving an international openness, creating strong diplomatic and political relations, to become a part of the settlements for resolving the Syrian crisis.
Regarding diplomatic relations, Fahima Hammo, a member of the Presidential Council, said that the Syrian Democratic Council played a pivotal and important role for establishing balanced diplomatic relations with many powers that have an active role for the Syrian crisis, such as the United States of America, Egypt, Russia and a number of European countries, and their political role has become a point of attraction for many international and regional powers, as well as the national opposition.
Hammo indicated that the goal of the Syrian Democratic Council is to end the state of tyranny and centralization, make a comprehensive democratic change and resolve the Syrian crisis in accordance with international decisions, foremost of which is Security Council Resolution 2254 and all relevant UN resolutions, and rebuild Syria according to a decentralized system guaranteed by a consensual constitution that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people.
In conclusion, discussions took place among gathered members about the importance of involving the Syrian Democratic Council in the political process and achieving the goals of the Syrian people in a pluralistic, decentralized democratic state and the necessity of the unity of Syrian parties against external interference, especially the Turkish occupier, and an emphasizing on the experience of the Autonomous Administration in northern and eastern Syria is the best solution for the future of Syria.
