Today, the Follow-up Committee which was emerged from the “National Conference of the People of Al- Jazeera and Euphrates” met in the city of Al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria, to discuss and evaluate the results and progress of the committee during one year of its work in implementing the decisions and outcomes of the conference.
The meeting was attended by the majority of the committee members who are belonging to the various regions and administrations of North and East of Syria, and in the presence of the Co-chairwoman of the Syrian Democratic Council, Amina Omar, and the Co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East of Syria, Abd Hamid Al-Mehbash.
The meeting began with a discussion of developments in the region, the escalation of terrorist attacks, Al-Sina’a prison events and their repercussions in which the Co-chairwoman of the SDC, Amina Omar, presented a political briefing on the solution paths and the prospects for finding a settlement for the Syrian conflict. Omar explained to the attendees the initiatives and the path of SDC in this regard, and indicated that despite all the obstacles, the council was able to make a real gathering by meeting Syrians and discussing the solution in Syria nationally.
The meeting members reviewed the decisions and outcomes of “People of Al-Jazeera and Euphrates Conference”, and evaluated the results of the meetings and the committee’s work process during the period given to it to follow up on the implementation of the decisions.
The “Follow-up Committee” emerged from the “National Conference of the People of Al-Jazeera and Euphrates” in November 2020, in which the conference that was held after thirteen dialogue seminars were held in various areas of the Autonomous Administration.
In its final statement, the conference approved seventeen items as a strategic plan for the development and modernization of the Autonomous Administration and expanding the community participation.
The Co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration, Abd Al-Mehbash, indicated that the committee, during the period of its work, served as a compass that directed and corrected the path of the administration and its institutions, displayed shortcomings, and worked boldly and loyally to achieve the outcomes of the conference and implement its items.
During this period, the administration worked on drafting and issuing many laws and launched anti-corruption campaigns. The committee, through its administrative, economic and security reports, helped to correct shortcomings and encouraged the creation of special offices, laws and institutionalization of the administration.
The members of the committee praised the commitment of the Autonomous Administration and its response to implement the most prominent outcomes of the conference, as the Autonomous Administration advanced in reformulating the social contract, and it was decided to hold important elections in the Autonomous Administration during the current year and many other items related to improving the living situation and legalizing security institutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Co-chairwoman of the SDC, Amina Omar, thanked Committee members for what they have done for its success. Thus, the legal period given to it by the Conference of “People of Al-Jazeera and Euphrates” ended, and the conference was held since a year.
