A dialogue seminar of the SDC entitled “The Role of Women in Community Development”

For empowering women in society and to achieve equality and real development, the Women’s Bureau of the Syrian Democratic Council organized today, Wednesday, on February 9th, 2022, a dialogue seminar on women and their role in community development, in the meeting room of its center in Raqqa, attended by administrators and members of women’s councils and Zenobia Women’s Gathering in northern and western the city’s countryside.
The seminar highlighted the pivotal role of women in the renaissance of ancient and contemporary societies and their ability to change positively, starting from their individual tasks and then family tasks to reach generations, societies and countries and achieve development in which the member of the Woman’s Bureau of the SDC, Fatima Al-Muhammed, talked that “ since the start of the United Nations Decade for Women until Beijing Conference in 1996, the interest has increased in empowering women and providing them with the opportunity to exercise their role effectively like men and contribute to make decisions in various fields of cultural, social, political and economic life.”
The seminar dealt with three main parts, the first part was a definition of the role of women, and the second one was the role of rural women in agriculture, industry, armed forces, medicine, work and others. The administrative member in the Woman’s Bureau of the SDC, Thebiya Al-Naser, said that “as we live in the rural society, we know that rural women stand by men in agriculture and other fields, thus we should enhance the social role of women, support them continuously and work to overcome all the difficulties they face in order to become self-confident and capable of assuming responsibility.”
While women attended a seminar, they participated in the discussion and mentioned the most important difficulties, obstacles and problems facing women, including habits, a negative view of working women, backwardness, and a culture of shame, in addition to balancing work, home duties, women’s health, and the inadequacy of some jobs with the nature of women.
Amina Ramadan, the administrator of the Women’s Committee in Al-Misherrifa, expressed her happiness at attending this seminar and her desire for young women to participate in such activities, as it contributes to strengthen their capabilities and develop their knowledge in the future. The administrative member of Al-Khatoniya committee, Khawla Al-Ismail explained that a seminar was valuable and provided new ideas to improve women in community development. “We are as working women in the Autonomous Administration for five years, have benefited from this seminar, and in turn, we will deliver this benefit and information to women to play a leading role in society.” The administrator of the western area of Zenobia Women’s Gathering, Kafia Al-Kurdi added.
