By Women’s Day, the Women’s Bureau of the Syrian Democratic Council organized its first activities for celebration of Women’s Day, which falls on March 8th of each year.
The first women’s activities were in the city of Derbasiyah, north of the city of Al-Hasakah, where a meeting was organized and attended by Women’s Bureaus in political parties, women in Autonomous Administration institutions, civil society organizations, in addition to a group of women’s rights activists.
Badiea Arabo, a member of the Women’s Bureau, spoke about the struggle of women and their continuous seeking to get their rights and to achieve justice.
She also touched on the leading role of women in the regions of northern and eastern Syria, which were able to innovate in all fields; social, cultural, political and even military fields and were able to change the prevailing concept.
Manal Haj Ali, a member of the Women’s Bureau, reviewed the history of feminist movements in the world and explained the reasons that prompted the United Nations to make the eighth day of March as an international day for celebration of Women’s Day.
She also pointed out the change achieved by women in the areas of Autonomous Administration by applying the system of common presidency of centers and departments and their effective role in all institutions of Autonomous Administration.
In turn, the female attendees expressed their opinions and called for more to be done to consolidate a participation and make the advanced experience of women in northern and eastern Syria generalized in all Syrian regions.
