The SDC and the International Coalition Participate in the Celebration of the People of Raqqa on the Fifth Anniversary of Liberation

Ilham Ahmed, the Chairwoman of the Executive Body of the Syrian Democratic Council, and Nicholas Grainger, the Supreme Representative of the US government, in the presence of thousands of people participated in the celebration held by the people of Raqqa to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the liberation of their city from terrorism represented by the terrorist organization ISIS, which previously controlled the city.

The celebration was organized by the democratic civil administration in Raqqa, which was held on Thursday and was attended by delegations from councils, institutions, the Autonomous Administration, representatives of political parties and powers, notables and tribal elders, in addition to a mass crowd of people and residents of Raqqa city and its countryside, and delegations from all regions of northern and eastern Syria, at the Municipal Stadium in the center of the city.

The celebration was begun with a solemn military parade presented by an elite of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Women’s Protection Units and Internal Security Forces, followed by many speeches by the Raqqa Civil Council, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units.

For his part, Nicholas Grainger, the high representative of the United States of America in Syria, spoke about the cooperation by the International Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces in order to defeat ISIS terrorism which existed five years ago in Raqqa and that the liberation of Raqqa was a decisive milestone in the international war against ISIS, and today Raqqa is the city of peace.

While Ilham Ahmed, the Chairwoman of the Executive Body of the Syrian Democratic Council, stressed during a speech delivered amid the celebration that “Today is a new birthday after the liberation by the efforts and sacrifices of the martyrs, followed by the construction process, democracy and the liberation of women”. She called for more hard work in building the country, pointing to the continued partnership with the International Coalition in the fight against terrorism and a new process of building democracy and life.

This celebration included artistic performances and traditional and folk songs that highlighted the cultural richness of the components of this city, and finally the event was concluded by honoring the Martyrs’ Families Foundation and the wounded House Foundation with commemorative shields.
