Mrs. Ilham Ahmed, the chairwoman of the Executive Council of the Syrian Democratic Council, met with a delegation of the US government headed by Ethan Goldrich, Deputy Assistant Secretary of US for Near Eastern affairs.
The American delegation stressed their great appreciation for the partnership with the political, military and administrative parties operating in northeastern Syria, at the beginning of the visit, stressing the continuation of joint efforts to combat ISIS.
The two sides also discussed developments on the Syrian arena, especially in northern Syria, and the continuing Turkish threats on the region. Mr. Goldrich stressed the support of the intra- Syrian political dialogues, and the importance of representing all Syrian parties, in order to reach a resolution in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The US delegation included representatives of the Ministry of foreign affairs and specialists in counter-terrorism affairs and coordination on security and humanitarian issues, who stressed during the meeting the importance of strengthening stability and developing fundamental resolutions for the issues of camps, especially those containing families of ISIS members in northeastern Syria, and the issue of return countries to their citizens.
Mr. Goldrich added that stabilizing northeastern Syria is a priority for the United States and the international coalition countries, along with the latter’s efforts to provide humanitarian support and assistance and work with international organizations to achieve this, in addition to their focus on de-escalation and ceasefire.
For her part, Mrs. Ilham Ahmed stressed that the ISIS issue is an international issue that requires international efforts, at the same time that the regions of northeastern Syria need to support development and stabilization, noting the importance of international support for the intra- Syrian dialogues to end the suffering of Syrians and pave the way for a comprehensive political resolution.
The meeting was held in the presence of Janda Muhammed, Afram Ishaq and Thabet Al-Jawhar, who are members of the Presidium of the Syrian Democratic Council.
