The Syrian Democratic Council is following with great importance the popular protests in the city of As-Suwayda, which escalated on the 4th of December, in front of Al- Saraya building, in which they were confronted with live bullets, claiming the lives of two young men of people the city of As-Suwayda.
These popular protests are driven by a state of tension due to the poor social conditions, the deterioration of the economic situation of citizens, the deprivation of citizens of fuel, heating materials, water, electricity, and public high prices, in addition to the security chaos in this governorate, in which the militias play a subversive role by doing actions such as theft, looting, militarization, drug smuggling, and the spread of corruption among young people.
In addition, the poor conditions are not limited to As-Suwayda governorate, but rather all areas under the control of the Damascus authority suffer, which creates a favorable environment that makes the situation worse. In the context of the Revolution of Dignity, which seeks to achieve its goals in confronting the hunger crisis caused by the policies of the central tyrannical regime, which works to subjugate the people and force them into silence, instead of working to alleviate suffering and injustice by confronting its causes radically.
The continuation of the Damascus authority with these policies that reject any change will keep it incapable of achieving any positive transition regarding the conditions of the Syrians, and this authority must realize before it is too late that the bad economic, social and security conditions in the country have become endless, and will continue to move towards more human disasters, in which it means that it will be more uprisings that express a state of despair, frustration, and a loss of hope regarding any progress.
The Syrian Democratic Council stands by the people of the city of As-Suwayda, condemns the targeting of unarmed demonstrators, and calls on the Damascus authority to review its policies towards the Syrian situation, which has become tragic, and for the Russian guarantor to assume its full responsibilities towards the security and safety of our people in As-Suwayda.
