“The Feminist Meeting” concludes its work with a set of recommendations

The Women’s Dialogue Meeting which was held on Saturday under the title “Women and the Democratic Transition in Syria” was concluded in response to the invitation of the Intellectuals Union and was sponsored by the Syrian Democratic Council. It was attended by more than 60 women figures from various Syrian regions in Raqqa.

The meeting discussed two main themes, which are the inclusive Syrian national identity and the role of women in the process of democratic transition towards decentralization. As a result of the discussions, the participating women agreed on a set of recommendations and outcomes, which were read by the Preparatory Committee as following:
– The importance of defining the inclusive national identity that reflects societal and cultural pluralism, enshrines national unity, and is based on the principles of justice, freedom, and equal citizenship rights.
– The necessity of women’s participation in the political process and the drafting of a new Syrian constitution that guarantees their rights and activates their role in society.
– The political empowerment of women is a start for women in terms of consensus on issues of national identity and the good governance regime for Syria represented in achieving a pluralistic and decentralized state.
– Emphasizing that decentralization enhances civil peace and builds trust and community participation among the Syrian components.
– Intensifying women’s meetings at home and abroad within the framework of unifying efforts to support women’s issues and community issues.
– The need for participation of women in international forums, security and peace-building processes and their role in societal cohesion.
– Adopting the concept of decentralization as a regime of governance and administration and as a start for a resolution in Syria. It is possible to adopt the experience of the Autonomous Administration and develop it as a turning point for the future Syria.
