The Syrian Democratic Council

A Statement for the Public Opinion

The Syrian Democratic Council expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation on the attack that targeted a popular market in the city of Jisr al-Shughur in northern Syria this morning, resulting in deaths, injuries, and damages.

We condemn; as the SDC, this unbridled inclination of committing bloody acts and resorting to violence, we appeal to the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria and the international actors to condemn the continuation of these acts and work towards protecting civilians and engaging more in finding a resolution for the Syrian massacre.

While the Syrian file includes political movements at the local and Arab levels in seeking peaceful resolutions for the Syrian crisis, which has surpassed a decade, so we are surprised by the inclination of some Syrians to use violence and thus counter-violence that takes us back to square one, leaving the Syrian wound without healing.

Realizing the magnitude of threats and challenges facing Syria as a state and as a people, we call upon the Syrian parties to perceive the Syrian reality based on the national belonging and to work diligently to find a genuine way out of the crisis and its exhausting repercussions on the Syrian citizens inside and outside the country.

We must not forget the images of Syrians drowning at sea, enduring the suffering of displacement, the cruelty of refuge, the darkness of prisons, and the hardships of camps. The Syrian opposition, which possesses decision-making power and is tasked with negotiation, should respond and support a comprehensive national project that unites us and lifts the country from its state of division and continuous decline.

There must be a stance that shields the country from violence, stops the bloodshed, and brings Syrians together on the path of rescue.

As the Syrian Democratic Council, we renew our call for the open dialogue and support all Syrian parties for peace, and we work together to find a national approach that aligns with UN Resolution 2254 and begins to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, justice, and equality.
