Women in Aleppo Discuss the Culture of Difference and Promoting Participatory Life

Today, a group of Syrian women in Aleppo discussed the culture of difference and the necessities of promoting participatory life.

That was during a dialogue session called by the Relations Bureau of the Democratic Syria Council, which was held in the council’s meeting hall in Aleppo, with the attendance of representatives from political parties and women interested in public affairs.

The administrative session was started with a speech by the Chairwoman of Relations Bureau of the Democratic Syria Council, Zainab Qanbar, who explained the forms of difference among the parties in the Syrian crisis.

She pointed out that Syria is currently suffering from great challenges such as wars and economic and social crises, and that by promoting participatory life in society, it is possible to avoid division and conflicts, achieve common goals and sustainable resolutions and preserve social cohesion.

In turn, teacher Hanifa Ajaj spoke about the concepts of difference and disagreement and the difference between them, and presented an analysis of the difference and its psychological, social, moral, intellectual and political implications.

The feminist activist Shireen Muhammed Ali stressed the importance of dealing positively with the differences existing in Syrian society, and not turning them into disagreements that would divide society.

For her part, human rights activist Salwa Ajaj said that participation in Syrian society would enhance the culture of democracy, transparency, dialogue, effective communication and acceptance of others’ opinions, and allow participation in decision-making processes and policy development and influence the orientations of society, which in turn leads to a more just society and reaching consensus and common resolutions among Syrian parties.

Meanwhile, teacher Zainab Muhammed said that participation in Syrian society has become a necessity for building a democratic society, by enhancing teamwork, stressing that through it Syrians can overcome the challenges they face and build a better future and participate in developing society and creating positive change.

The women agreed that promoting participatory life is necessary for building a cohesive and sustainable society, and that can be achieved through encouraging open discussions and constructive dialogues with different spectra and segments of Syrian society.
