On the occasion of Newroz, which falls on March 21st, we celebrate a day that brings renewal, change, and freedom. Also, Newroz represents the end of tyranny, dictatorship, and injustice. It heralds the unity and dialectical relationship between humanity and nature, signifying new beginnings.
The Kurdish people and many other Middle Eastern communities celebrate this occasion each year for its sanctity and symbolism. The celebration represents an ethical and humanitarian commitment, honoring the sacrifices that have accompanied this event, and reaffirming our determination to continue the path of struggle and resistance. May Newroz in this year, as it has been throughout history, ushers a new era shaped by an ethical, political and free society.
We wish to live in a life filled with peace and love, may the Syrian crisis take priority for the international community. May there be relentless efforts to manage the crisis in a way that aligns with the aspirations and interests of the Syrian people. We hope this occasion be the end of an era lasted a thirteen-year period of devastation and destruction to infrastructure, environment, and nature. Also, we wish the eliminating of displacement, migration, poverty, economic and human resource depletion, terrorism, extremism, occupation, Syrian fragmentation, and a culture of hatred. May this year be one of rebuilding, stability, the demise of terrorism and tyranny, reconstruction, and the voluntary and secure return of Syrians to their homeland. Additionally, we wish a new launch for the revolution of the Arab Spring across all domains, uniting Syrians around a comprehensive, Syrian and national project that achieves democracy and social justice.
We hope that, just as Newroz has marked a turning point in the history of freedom-seeking peoples, this year’s Newroz will be a new start for the Syrian people. For decades, they have endured oppression, subjugation, and exploitation, especially the Kurdish population. As political and social powers, we bear ethical responsibilities to overcome division, discard differences, and usher in a new phase that aligns with the essence and reality of Newroz which is a symbol of generosity, freedom, sacrifice, unity, and solidarity.
Our duty is to end the suffering of our people in the occupied regions, where they face various forms of violence and oppression contrary to all international and humanitarian norms. We underscore to establish a unifying alliance encompassing all components of the Syrian society, national and democratic powers, standing against tyranny, terrorism, and occupation. Also, we ultimately strive for the freedom of the Syrian people.
On this auspicious occasion, we, as members of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Kurdish people, all Syrians and peoples. We say to everyone Happy Newroz. Newroz represents a world characterized by peace, love, and fraternity.
