The General Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held on Saturday its third regular meeting of the year. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss political developments at the local, regional, and international levels and their impacts on the Syrian situation. The meeting also explored potential pathways for a political solution and ways to break the current deadlock in the Syrian issue.
Layla Qaraman, Co-chairwoman of the SDC, and Mahmoud al-Mislat, Co-chairman of the SDC, along with Janda Muhammad, Ghassan al-Youssef, and Ali Rahmoun, deputies of the SDC’s Co-chairs, chaired the meeting. Also, most General Council members both within Syria and abroad participated in the meeting via Zoom.
The participants in the meeting observed a minute of silence to remember the martyrs of freedom in Syria. The meeting’s agenda included a political analysis of the global, regional, and local situations.
In response to the political analysis presented by the SDC’s Presidential Body, Qaraman discussed the various conflicts in the Middle East, escalated tensions regarding international and regional relations. She emphasized that these indicators point to new conflicts that will break out in the Middle East, with Syria being one of the arenas for international and regional interests.
“In light of these developments, the SDC continues its national path, rejecting all forms of occupation and demographic change in all Syrian regions. The national dialogue and openness to all Syrians are considered the safest path to resolve the Syrian crisis and avoid any acts that worsen tragedy and suffering of the Syrian people” Qaraman stated.
“The SDC represents the aspirations of the Syrian people in ending tyranny and terrorism, and building a decentralized, pluralistic and democratic regime that ensures an effective participation for all components of the Syrian people,” Qaraman emphasized.
Also, Qaraman underscored the importance of the national dialogue among all Syrians inside Syria. The SDC supports the intra-Syrian dialogue to achieve a positive reconciliation for the overall Syrian situation.
On the other hand, al-Mislat affirmed the significance of enhancing and developing relations between the SDC and the Arab and regional countries for the interests of the Syrian people’s issue and finding a solution to the Syria’s crisis.
Al-Mislat noted that despite the obstacles faced by the SDC, it plays a crucial role regarding the Syrian situation. The SDC has strong relations with allies, and leads a national path towards a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis and the reconstruction of a new Syria.
Also, al-Mislat stated that the SDC is the sole legitimate representative relied upon by the Syrian people. There is also a recognition of the SDC by international countries, and the northeastern regions of Syria are considered as a focal point for all Syrians seeking a genuine change.
Furthermore, during the meeting, the participants conducted a thorough assessment regarding the political, security, and humanitarian situations across various regions in Syria. This included the northern, eastern and southern regions of Syria, as well as the territories under the Turkish occupation in northwest Syria and the government-controlled areas in Damascus. The meeting addressed the immense humanitarian suffering endured by the Syrian people due to the ongoing crisis.
Additionally, the meeting discussed ways to coordinate with influential international powers and parties regarding the Syrian issue. The aim is to reach a comprehensive political solution to the crisis that ensures the Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and independence, and safeguards the rights of all Syrian components. This solution should establish a secure, stable, and democratic future for Syria.
On the other hand, the General Council thoroughly discussed the SDC’s internal organizational situation. It underscored efforts to enhance the collaborative work among various political components. The Council’s aim is to achieve the desired objectives for the Syrian people based on principles of democracy, equality, human rights, and pluralism. The meeting emphasized the sparing the region from extremism and terrorism.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of various workshops organized by the SDC to address key issues in Syria. These outcomes are expected to be as a basis for the SDC’s strategies and plans in the upcoming phase.
Also, the meeting underscored the importance of these activities in promoting the constructive dialogue and exchange of experiences among different Syrian components. The aim is to achieve the interests of the Syrian people and realize their aspirations for democracy, freedom, and justice.
