The Women’s Office of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held on Wednesday a workshop in Aleppo city, entitled “The Secularism is Important for the Syrian Situation”. The workshop was as part of the ongoing efforts made by the Women’s Office to empower Syrian women and enhance their role in various fields.
Women representatives of political parties and women’s organizations, as well as women activists interested in Syrian affairs, participated in the workshop. Zeinab Qunbar, Head of the SDC’s Women’s Office in Aleppo, addressed the concept of secularism. Qunbar emphasized that it means the neutrality of the state towards race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, and gender in Syrian society. She noted that the absence of secularism and democracy would exacerbate the Syrian crisis and the problems suffered by the Syrian people.
Warda Omar, Head of the Women’s Office for the Yazidi House in Aleppo, emphasized the importance of the strong connection between secularism and democracy. She asserted that this foundation would contribute to building a cohesive Syrian society. It will be capable to develop, continue to face international conflicts, and confront the catastrophic repercussions that have affected the Syrian society for 13 years.
Fatima Ali, a member of the Women’s Council of the Religious Affairs Foundation in Aleppo, addressed the challenges facing Syria’s future. Ali pointed out the religious, sectarian, ethnic, political, and class divisions that have affected the Syrian social fabric. Ali stressed that it is crucial to emphasize the secularism and democracy to address these divisions.
During the workshop, the participants underscored the role of secularism in promoting democracy, human rights, and national unity. They considered it an urgent necessity for the current Syrian situation.
It is noteworthy that this workshop is part of a series of events organized by the Women’s Office in various parts of Syria. These events aim to empower Syrian women and enhance their role in society.
