The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) is closely following the distressing news about Kakhreh village in the occupied Afrin. We condemn in the strongest terms the imposition of a suffocating siege and the cutting off of internet services by Turkish-backed extremist factions. The village witnesses flagrant violations of human rights. Reports indicate arbitrary arrests, torture, and grave violations against civilians, resulting in severe injuries among the village residents.
Furthermore, we emphasize that such actions are in egregious violation of the most basic human principles and international human rights covenants. We strongly assert that imposing a siege and attacking defenseless civilians constitute a crime against humanity that must be halted immediately. Also, we call upon the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities towards these grave violations, work to lift the siege, ensure the safety of civilians, and hold accountable those responsible for these crimes.
As we call on all parties to adhere to international laws that guarantee the protection of civilians and their rights to live in dignity and safety. In addition, we emphasize that we will not remain silent in the face of the atrocities of the Turkish occupation and its affiliated factions. Moreover, we will remain steadfast in our support for the people of Afrin, advocating for their right to live in peace and security, free from the consequences of occupation, displacement, and violence.
