The Kurdish people, along with all freedom-loving and renewal-embracing communities, celebrate Nowruz, the Kurdish New Year. This occasion symbolizes rebirth and the triumph over oppression. It embodies the enduring struggle for justice and equality.
For decades, the Kurdish people have faced systematic repression and deprivation. Their celebrations have been banned, their language suppressed, and their rights denied. Despite these challenges, their will has remained unbroken. They have continued their peaceful struggle to achieve their legitimate rights.
We, as members of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), affirm that Nowruz should be a national occasion for all Syrians. Building a pluralistic and democratic state is the only path to ensuring equal rights for everyone. However, the current approach to shaping Syria’s future remains exclusionary. This is evident in the constitutional declaration adopted by the new administration (interim government) in Damascus. Such actions reproduce the chauvinistic policies of the Baath Party. They disregard the national rights of Syrian components and ignore the diversity that forms the essence of Syria’s national identity.
We call on all Syrians to uphold the values of pluralism and democracy. We must work together to build a free and democratic Syria. Unity and solidarity among peoples are essential in the face of tyranny and occupation. This is the only way to achieve a more just and equitable future.
Nowruz is a celebration that embodies hope and looks forward to a brighter future. It conveys a powerful message: the struggle for freedom and justice will ultimately lead to success. On this occasion, we extend our warmest congratulations to the Kurdish people and all Syrians. We hope this celebration marks the beginning of a new phase of peace and prosperity.
Happy Nowruz
