New Year’s Message for 2026

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Syrian people, in Syria and across the diaspora, on the occasion of the New Year 2026. We wish that this year will bring genuine signs of hope and a national path that meets Syrians’ aspirations for stability, dignity and peace.

The new year comes at a time when Syria faces a historic opportunity to establish a different national path—one that ends authoritarianism, violence and terrorism, and puts an end to policies of exclusion and marginalization that have affected the society and state. This moment demands collective responsibility and a political vision that places the country’s interest above all considerations and restores the right of Syrians to determine their own future.

Today, Syrians clearly aspire to end the cycle of violence, to consolidate sustainable peace, and to create a secure environment that enables economic and social development — rebuilding what years of conflict have destroyed and laying the foundations for balanced social justice that guarantees equal opportunities for all citizens without exception. None of this can be achieved without enabling millions of internally displaced people (IDPs) and refugees to return to their regions and homes in a dignified and safe manner, under real guarantees that protect their rights and property.

The SDC affirms that the unity of Syrians—despite their differing ethnic, religious and political affiliations—constitutes the fundamental pillar of any successful national project. The diversity that characterizes Syrian society has been, and will remain, a source of strength and richness. It can only be protected by entrenching the principle of equal citizenship and rejecting all forms of discrimination. Additionally, it requires safeguarding individual and collective rights within a just and inclusive state.

In this context, the SDC stresses the necessity of embarking on a proper and responsible transitional phase based on a purely national agenda and managed by an independent political will. The phase’s aim is to protect Syria’s unity and sovereignty and to realize the aspirations of its people free from any external interests.

Furthermore, the SDC reiterates that implementing the March 10 Agreement is a political priority and a practical means to build trust and consolidate stability. It also underscores the importance of convening an inclusive national dialogue conference that brings together Syria’s diverse forces and components. The aim is to draft a fair and democratic constitution that guarantees pluralism, protects rights and freedoms, and establishes the rule of law and institutions that serve all Syrians.

Moreover, the SDC renews its commitment to working with all national forces for a united, democratic, and secure Syria—one in which the dignity of Syrians is preserved and their legitimate demands are fulfilled.

Best wishes to the Syrian people, with hope for lasting peace in Syria
