On Saturday, September 14th, the Women’s Office of the Syrian Democratic Council organized a development lecture for members of women’s institutions in the city of Manbij with the objective of introducing empowerment and how to empower women politically and getting them out from pot of habits and traditions in order to grant them the leading role in society and decision-making positions. . The lecture was attended by dozens of members of women’s administrations and institutions in the city of Manbij and its affiliated committees with participation of the administrator in Women Office of SDC, Ilham Omar, and members of the Office : Zabbia al-Nasser, Amina Saleh, Newroz Ahmad and Najah Khalil. The lecture included important topics that will raise the level of awareness and development of women, the importance of empowering women, providing them with skills and abilities in order to make them play a prominent leading role in society. The most serious problems and sufferings that women currently face, which stand in the way of their progress, were discussed and appropriate solutions were suggested. Elham Omar talked about the reality of women and their representation in society. She also gave an overview of the role of women in society in past, the importance of women’s political empowerment and the obstacles to their participation. She also stressed on the necessity to overcome the habits and traditions that restrict women and prevent them from achieving their objectives. For her part, al-Nasser pointed to the need to increase the political, social and legal awareness of women through training courses, lectures, seminars and encourage women to join and interact with them to prove themselves more, to emphasize on their role within community and access to leadership positions. This lecture is part of a series of lectures held by the Women’s Office in North and East of Syria, which the office considers them as one of its priorities in order to enhance the role of women and empower them in political and social fields.
