Yesterday, a popular market in the city of Afrin was subjected to a huge explosion that shaked the occupied city, resulting in death and injury of dozens of innocent civilians, some of whom are original residents of Afrin, according to initial reports and information. This bombing also comes at a time when the city of Afrin is exposed to various forms of terrorism, such as killing and kidnapping, even the elderly became victims, confiscation of civilian property and their agricultural lands in order to displace them and change the demography of the city through systematic targeting of the security of its original population. The explosion coincides with continuation of Turkish army and its affiliated factions to violate the agreements signed by Turkey with American and Russian sides regarding the cease-fire in North and East Syria, as it is in the incident of Turkish army targeting Asayiş headquarter in Kobani; in addition to these faction’s internal conflicts to control over civilian capabilities and their livelihoods.
We in the Syrian Democratic Council condemn and denounce this cowardly terrorist act that targeted innocent civilians and threatens the remaining ones to move and leave their villages and cities, we confirm that the Turkish occupation by relying on the factions that have terrorist thought, has opened the door wide open for terrorist forces to organize their ranks and practice their cowardly actions under Turkish protection. We also call upon the international community to carry out its responsibilities towards the Syrian issue and work to end the Turkish occupation of the city of Afrin and all other areas that it occupied; and to pave the way to achieve a political solution guided by relevant international resolutions, foremost of which is resolution 2254, to put an end to the conflict that has lasted for nearly ten years.
