The “Syrians for detainees and abductees” committee organized an event entitled “With You” in the Austrian capital, Vienna, to recall the issue of Syrian detainees and highlight the tragedy of detainees and their families.
Austrian officials, families of detainees, survivors and Syrian national and human rights figures interested in the issue of Syrian detainees participated in the event. The event included an art exhibition that embodied the suffering of the detainees and their cause, in addition to showing plays and the solo playing on oud.
The Syrian Democratic Council announced on April 4th, 2020, the formation of a committee to follow up the file of detainees and abductees in Syria through a press conference in the city of Al-Qamishli in North and East of Syria, calling on the parties of conflict in Syria to abide by the international law of human rights and all relevant international laws and treaties.
Subsequently, the announced Committee established a platform called “Syrians for detainees and abductees” to work independently on the file of detainees, abductees and forcibly disappeared by all parties of conflict in Syria.
In the opening of the event “With you”, the Chairwoman of the committee “Syrians for detainees and abductees”, Majdouline Hassan, said that the committee calls for shed lighting on the file of Syrian detainees until their fate is revealed, and stressed the importance of considering the file of detainees, abductees, missing and forcibly disappeared as a humanitarian file and cannot be negotiated and away from political rivalries.
It is worth nothing, there are no official and accurate statistics on the number of detainees, abductees or missing persons in Syria until now, and the investigation committee that is concerned with Syria, mandated by the human rights council since the beginning of the conflict in 2011, indicates that the number of detainees, abductees or missing persons in Syria has exceeded 100 people.
