Today, on Thursday, April 14th, the Syrian Democratic Council held a dialogue session on the concept of “the democratic decentralization” in the city of Al-Hasakah, northeastern of the country.
The session was attended by political parties, intellectuals, independent politicians, civil society actors and social figures.
A member of the Presidential Council of the Syrian Democratic Council, Ali Rahmon, talked about the concept of decentralization and the form of governance in Syria, and pointed out that the models of decentralization are prevalent in many countries of the world.
He added that there are several theses on the decentralization of Syria according to the Syrian parties, and talked about the project of the Syrian Democratic Council and the model of its solution for the Syrian crisis, using dialogue and negotiation to solve all problems.
Rahmon reviewed the history of modern Syria and the Syrian constitutions, where the Constitution of 1920 approved decentralization to the Fifties of the last century, and also there are many countries that adopt decentralization as the “United Arab Emirates” as a model in the Middle East, “Switzerland” in the West and other countries of the world.
He added that decentralization represents a fear for many Syrians, thinking that decentralization represents independence or separation from the state entity, and noted that the implementation of decentralization in Syria will be a national solution that stops tyranny.
In turn, the attendees stressed that focusing on the concept of decentralization for the future Syria is very important for the social and economic development of Syria.
The Syrian Democratic Council and Syrian powers and figures from the Democratic Opposition held a consultative meeting in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on April 9-10, during which they discussed the concept of decentralization and governance.
