The Syrian Democratic Council

Syrian clans and tribes reject Turkish threats and call on the international community to intervene

To strengthen the national cohesion among the Syrian components and discuss the Turkish threats, the Syrian Democratic Council organized on Monday an expanded meeting with the elders and dignitaries of the Syrian tribes from the areas of Raqqa, Tabqa, Hama, Homs, Aleppo and Idlib.

A member of the Presidential Council of the Syrian Democratic Council, Jiyan Malla Mahmoud, began the meeting by presenting the role of the SDC in resolving the Syrian crisis and achieving consensus among the parties and that the tribes take their real role in maintaining the civil peace and social cohesion.
“The SDC believes that clans as its primary ally, and SDC’s role is to preserve the clan symbolism that characterizes Syria.” Jiyan Malla Mahmoud said.

“The goal of our meeting is what we can do as Syrians for, our home, Syria that unites us all,” Ali Rahmon, the deputy chairwoman of the Executive Body said.

In turn, the elders and dignitaries in the Raqqa region stressed their support for the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Syrian Democratic Council and the Autonomous Administration, as they are based on the will of the unified Syrian people, which does not accept the occupation, division and the ongoing attacks by the Turkish occupation.

Regarding the International Coalition and its position, the elders and dignitaries appealed to the coalition to put international peacekeeping forces and hold it responsible for any new occupations because it prepares for a new terrorism in the region. They also appealed for the formation of a tribal delegation to meet with the advisory members of the international coalition forces present in the region as well as they appealed to all Syrians not to support the Turkish occupier to not consolidate his ambitions in Syria so as not to repeat the experience of the seizing Iskenderun Brigade that happened in 1939.

While Haitham Abd Allah, the Co-chairman of the Idlib Green Council, spoke about the need to unify positions and popular cohesion, and this will be done if there is a mechanism of action, plans and coordination to reach the global public opinion. “This meeting is a good step because it includes dignitaries and personages from different regions in Syria, everyone is concerned and we are watching the protests and demonstrations by our people against the occupation at home despite the emphasis by the factions on them.” He said.

It was mentioned that on January 20th, 2018, the operation of the occupation of Afrin was launched by Turkey and the factions loyal to it, and the areas of Ras Al-Ain and Tal Abyad (Sere kaniyeh and Gere Sepi) were occupied in 2019 and in both operations more than 500 thousand civilians were displaced from their areas and the demography of these areas was changed.
