MSDThe recent events in Sweida have proved that the truth of the revolutionary People will remain the most capable of expression and change, and it is the only one that can be for the sake of truth and dignity despite the policies of oppression and tyranny, so the participation of spiritual leaders, national opposition members, and men of dignity encourages the movement to continue, develop and provide the visionary guidance so as not to be under the pressure of members aimed at sabotage and thus the failure and loss of efforts, and also that the presence of leaders facing rumors and the policies of opponents of Democratic Change is a paramount necessity to ensure that the goal will not change.
What is happening in Sweida is a right movement of rejection whose slogan is “We want to live with dignity”, and if it is renewed, it will be a response for the worsening of the catastrophic conditions that are plaguing the majority of Syrians, and it is not only economic and living demands that are the cause of the movement, but it is an awareness of the role of the Syrian authority in all the problems that are happening, and this awareness is the alternative in ending tyranny, and establishing a democratic governance regime, a state of law and institutions and a state of citizenship. It is the awareness of the Syrian components for their real participation in governance and in power instead of exclusion and marginalization, and instead of slogans based on the protection of minorities because minorities do not need protection when citizenship is full, and the role of a citizen is not based on his national or religious identity only, but on the effectiveness of belonging, the value of participation and full constitutional recognition of the rights of these components.
Any protest movement in the areas of the Syrian authority makes the chance be available for the expansion of protest action in various areas that are under the control of Syrian authority in which it helps to change policies, and to overthrow the central authoritarian policies in all the sectors of its regime, and stopping without achieving the goal of the movement may change the matters, so the popular movement must continue as a necessity to accomplish the next step that neutralizes the security services, and stops their ability to interfere in people’s lives and repress again.
The means of success of the next step is done by organizing the management of life and resources, and confirming the unity of the people and their local representatives represented by the revolutionaries who have proven until now that they are protectors of their people, and that they are activists to defend their people and their country.
We are as members of the Syrian Democratic Council, we declare our full support for our people in the city of Sweida and for their legitimate demands that preserve the unity of the country and protect the sovereignty of its components and the legitimate right of all Syrian components to manage their matters by themselves through their own will, which achieves Syrian belonging and an inclusive national identity towards a decentralized and democratic Syria.
