The Syrian Democratic Council

A workshop on the challenges of the Syrian issue in Deir ez-Zor

The SDC Relations Committee in Deir ez-Zor, and in partnership with Insaf Organization, held a workshop for political parties, civil organizations, intellectuals and independent figures present in the eastern area to discuss the challenges facing the Syrian issue since the 12 years of the Syrian people’s crisis.

Anas Al-Marfoua, a member of the Relations Bureau of the Syrian Democratic Council, began the workshop by saying “The Syrian issue is going through a difficult stage today, as several parties are trying to eliminate the constants and goals of the Syrian people, who have sought for twelve years to achieve them”.

Regarding the Turkish practices in northern Syria, Al-Marfoua stressed that the Turkish occupation commits the most heinous crimes against the peoples of the region in the occupied territory, such as murder, displacement, settlement and demographic change, and this occupation deliberately wants to weaken the will of the Syrian people and ends the goals of its revolution by supporting radical Islamic factions including Al-Nusra and others that are classified as terrorist factions.

Al-Marfoua continued that all real opposition parties must renounce discord, end division and work on the unity of the Syrian rank because this demand has become urgent at the moment, and opposition parties mustn’t rely on the foreign parties to not become tools for a temporary functional role because sovereignty on the territories is for the Syrian people.

The member of the Relations Bureau added that “The Syrian Democratic Council works on the basis of partnership and unity away from exclusion and it plans policies calling for an intra-Syrian national dialogue and achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people, so all parties should support it because it represents a national democratic and liberating project for the desired Syria.

For their part, the attendees discussed many of the challenges facing the Syrian issue, such as the economic crisis and the mindset of the Syrian regime, in addition to the conspiracies that are being planned to thwart the democratic project and use various means against it, such as escalating hostilities, water war, obstructing aid, and other means.

At the end of the workshop, proposals and recommendations were made, and the most prominent of which was the initiation of a Syrian dialogue aimed at agreeing on a national strategy, thwarting occupation schemes and forced displacement. It was focused on uniting the parties with a representative entity, opening relations with the Arab world, launching initiatives and communicating with civil society organizations and international bodies to publicize the Syrian issue.
