The Syrian Feminist Dialogue Meeting organized by the Aleppo Cultural Forum was launched on Friday, October 28th, under the title “Women and Democratic Transition in Syria” in Al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo.
A wide spectrum of Syrian feminist figures gathered to discuss several issues, most notably the Syrian inclusive national identity and the role of Syrian women in the democratic transition towards decentralization, with the participation of more than 55 feminist figures from various Syrian governorates and regions, in addition to the participation of the Co-chairwoman of the Syrian Democratic Council, Amina Omar, and a representative of the coordination of Women’s Bureau of the SDC, Manal Haj Ali, as well as female representatives of political parties and feminist events.
The meeting was begun with a welcoming speech by the joint management of the Aleppo Cultural Forum, Laila Khaled, through which she spoke about the importance of this meeting during the crisis and the difficult situation in Syria politically, economically and socially and its consequences for all members of the Syrian people.
“International differences and contradictions are reflected on identity and disrupt the national path and national consensus, which fuels the conflict inside the homeland, and that was clearly demonstrated regarding the Syrian crisis, so we, as a cultural entity, decided to hold this meeting and discuss structural and fundamental issues to strengthen the internal front and weaken the argument for external interventions, ” she said.
Laila spoke about the forward-looking vision of women and their historical role in forming national identities.
“Women cannot be excluded from the reconstruction of national identities in our modern era, and this meeting aims to return history to its natural course with regard to the historical role of women and community leadership,” Leila said.
The feminist dialogue meeting is scheduled to continue for two consecutive days, during which it will discuss the inclusive Syrian national identity and the role of women in the democratic transition towards decentralization.
It is worth mentioning that the Aleppo Cultural Forum held the Aleppo Consultative Meeting on August 5-6, which included 35 representatives and figures from various Syrian provinces, including intellectuals and writers, as well as politicians and diplomats, in addition to representatives of National Democratic Powers.
