The Syrian Democratic Council

A Statement for the Public Opinion

The Syrian Democratic Council condemns in the strongest terms the blatant attack that targeted security and stability in Iraq by the bombing that targeted the vicinity of Al-Sulaymaniyah airport in the Kurdistan region, in a clear violation of the international law.

The Council believes that the Turkish government, since the beginning of its assumption of the reins of power, has deliberated to violate the international law and the rules of good neighborliness, disregard for international norms and covenants, and threaten the will of peoples and the lives of civilians by all forms of the direct and indirect interference on their internal affairs and the confiscation of their political freedoms, as Turkey similarly employs these hostile practices and activities to prevent a democratic transition and the achievement of any political resolution that achieves stability in Syria.

As the Council believes that the Turkish army’s attack on Al-Sulaymaniyah also aims to destabilize the unity of the Iraqi ranks, which is a major partner in the war against terrorism, especially since this attack has happened immediately after the killing of Iyad Al-Jubouri, the leader of the terrorist organization ISIS, in an operation that targeted him in the city of Idlib, which is under the protection and control of the affiliated terrorist factions to Turkey.

Therefore, we call on the international community to close the Iraqi and Syrian airspace against Turkish attacks and condemn this hostile and arbitrary behavior that aims to weaken the role of the Kurds in any dialogue or democratic resolution in neighboring countries and to impede efforts to combat terrorism and obstruct any cooperation between Iraq, Syria and the international coalition within the framework of the joint war against ISIS.
