The Syrian Democratic Council, along with a group of politicians and individuals interested in public affairs, discussed the issue of Arab normalization and its path with the authorities of Damascus during a dialogue seminar titled “Arab Normalization… Where do we go to?” in which that seminar held in the city of Al-Qamishli on Thursday.
In addition to politicians, civil society representatives attended the seminar. Amina Omar, the Co-chairwoman of the Syrian Democratic Council, clarified the council’s stance on the political developments taking place in the Syrian arena, particularly Arab normalization with the authorities in Damascus and the path of this normalization.
Omar emphasized that as the Syrian Democratic Council, they support the activation of the Arab role on the Syrian file. She added that this normalization should contribute to finding a political resolution for the Syrian crisis, taking into account the aspirations of the Syrian people and achieving their demands for change and democratic transition.
As the Secretary-General of the Syrian National Alliance, Aram Dumaney, supported the Arab normalization issue during his visit to the northeastern regions of Syria coming from Washington, in which this normalization leads to finding a comprehensive political settlement for the Syrian crisis and fulfills the demands of the Syrian people.
However, at the same time, Dumaney believed that the authorities in Damascus did not respond to previous Arab initiatives and changed their content, such as the committee of Arab and international Observers, and resorted to the military option to confront the Syrian people demanding change.
Regarding the reasons behind the prolonged Syrian crisis, Nasr al-Din Ibrahim, the Secretary of the Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria, stated that depending of the Syrian opposition on Turkey and handing it over to it has allowed Turkey to exploit the Syrian issue and the plight of the Syrian people to achieve its expansionist goals in the region.
The Political activist, Azizah Farhoun, shed light on recent meetings held to discuss the Syrian file, especially the recent one in Astana, where its sponsors opposed the aspirations of the Syrian people, particularly the experience in northeastern Syria. In the midst of all these developments, it is our right to question about the future of the Syrian issue.
The attendees also expressed their opinions on the political developments and the issue of Arab normalization, unanimously emphasizing the importance of directing this normalization to serve the Syrian people and end the crisis in the country, which made Syrian people exhausted and had devastating consequences for Syrian society.
The attendees called for the Syrian Democratic Council and the democratic opposition powers to play a greater role in presenting initiatives and work towards a resolution for the crisis in Syria.
