The follow-up committee of the “Aleppo National Meeting” rejected what it called them as “colonial projects” in Syria, and called on all Syrians to unite their efforts, and this came in a statement issued by the follow-up committee for Public Opinion.
“We, as members of the follow-up committee of the Aleppo National Meeting, and based on our commitment to the security, unity and stability of Syria and our national alliance on these values, and due to economic and political crises that the country is going through, which have reached a hopeless state, resulting in a peaceful popular movement in several governorates, for change, democratic transition and economic reform”, the statement reported.
The statement rejected what it called them as “colonial projects” in Syria. “According to the will of the people, we reject colonial projects that are similar to the Turkish occupation that is carrying out demographic change and Zionist aggression on vital facilities, and the goal is to divert attention from what is happening by a popular movement for improving living conditions and freedom”, the statement pointed out.
The statement also stressed the importance of dealing peacefully with the popular movement in a path that guarantees freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the constitution, and affirmed the need to protect this movement and preserve it from any military movements and false accusations that may threaten the security, stability and unity of Syria, if appropriate resolutions aren’t set for the aforementioned crises.
The statement mentioned “the need to work to end all occupations, including the Turkish occupation, which represents one of the most important threats to the security, unity and stability of Syria, and for its severe negative effects on politics, economy, food and water security for Syria, in addition to its attempt through its agents to eliminate the popular movement according to its expansionist interests in Aleppo and its countryside, in addition to repeated attacks of the Zionist entity on vital facilities and infrastructure of the country under false pretexts and justifications, such as the attack that took place yesterday morning on Aleppo International Airport, which added a new threat to the security and stability of the homeland and citizens”.
The statement called on Syrians to unite their efforts and reject unilateral security policies that refuse to recognize the other Syrian components that don’t agree with the authority in Damascus.
The committee condemned at the end of its statement, the repeated attacks of Turkish and Israeli aggression on Syria, which affect Syrian state sovereignty and affirmed the need to move forward to set appropriate political and economic resolutions through uniting ranks and arranging internal affairs starting from the intra-Syrian dialogue, to end the crisis and face the dangers that surround the country and work to preserve the security, stability and unity of Syrian territory that includes all Syrians.
It is worth mentioning that the follow-up committee was one of the outcomes of Aleppo National Meeting held at the invitation of the Syrian Democratic Council on August 12th, 2023.
