Several political parties, organizations, notables, intellectual and religious figures, and activists of the civil society in Aleppo issued, today, a joint statement for the public opinion condemning the Turkish escalation in various Syrian regions, especially in northeastern Syria, as well as the city of Aleppo and its countryside. They emphasized the necessity of unity and solidarity in the face of these attacks.
The statement was read in al-Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafiyah neighborhoods by the head of Aleppo Council for the Future Party, Khaleda Abdo.
At the beginning, the statement condemned the attacks and assaults on Syrian territories’ infrastructure and vital facilities. It denounced the Turkish attacks, including drones, warplanes and devastating destruction, in northern Syria, northeastern Syria, the city of Aleppo and its countryside, particularly around Tel Rifaat (al-Shahbaa) region and the surrounding cities, villages, and areas.
The statement considered these attacks a continuation of previous assaults targeting schools and vital facilities such as power stations and dams. These attacks resulted in catastrophic consequences regarding water, electricity, gas, and fuel supplies. This reflects the occupying and oppressive approach and the policy of Turkish aggression on the region’s peoples and the sovereignty of states. This is a blatant violation of international laws, norms, treaties, and human rights.
The statement also held the guarantor states, the international community, and the Security Council responsible for the security and humanitarian consequences within their duties as entities and organizations established to maintain international peace and security.
It added that the policy of leniency and double standards regarding the Syrian file will worsen humanitarian conditions, escalate security breakdowns, war crimes, and violations, and will destabilize the region both regionally and internationally, dragging it into conflicts which will not bode well for the security and peace of the region.
In conclusion, the statement called on all Syrian national powers to unite and consolidate their ranks in the face of these attacks that affect all Syrians.
